Ferrotype Privacy Policy
Last updated: 14 October 2026
Ferrotype is a photo album app. Your photos are yours — the app does not upload them anywhere, and we do not collect, store, or have access to them.
How your data is handled
- Photos. The app reads photos from your device's photo library to display them. Photos are processed on-device and are never transmitted to us or any third party.
- Face recognition. Face detection and recognition run entirely on your device using on-device machine learning. Face data never leaves your iPhone.
- Locations. If you enable location captions, the app reverse-geocodes photo coordinates to place names. This uses Apple's geocoding service, which means coordinates are sent to Apple as part of that system service. We do not receive them.
- iCloud sync. If you enable iCloud sync, your albums and settings sync via Apple's CloudKit to your own iCloud account. We cannot access this data.
- Curated albums. Album definitions and preferences are stored on your device (and in your iCloud account if sync is on).
What we don't do
- No analytics or crash reporting frameworks.
- No advertising identifiers.
- No accounts or sign-in (beyond Apple's own iCloud, which we don't control).
- No access to your photos, faces, or albums from our side — there is no server component.
